The natural settings of Cozumel and the Riviera Maya will be the proud hosts of World Environment Day next June 5th.
Juan Rafael Elvira Quesada, Secretary for the Environment and Natural Resources, announced during a press conference that the State of Quintana Roo is ready to stage the event.
Xcaret will be one of the venues to welcome this international meeting which will be transmitted via satellite to more than 180 countries worldwide.
One of the aims of this celebration is to make an appeal to the inhabitants of the earth to become aware of the effects of climate change.
This event will take place on the 4th and 5th of June on the island of Cozumel and in Xcaret, in Quintana Roo, where experts on environmental affairs, business leaders, academics, governors and personalities from the United Nations will come together to make agreements that will be presented at the Summit in Copenhagen.
Among the guests are the Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger;
the governor of Quintana Roo, Félix González Canto;
The Executive Director of the PNUMA, Achim Steiner; the President and Executive Director of the World Wildlife Fund, Carter Roberts;
Renown businessman Carlos Slim Helú, and the President of the Business Coordinating Council, ArmandoParedes.
On the 5th of June the official commemoration will be held for World Environment Day, headed by President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa, where prizes will be awarded to the winners of the following competitions: Fans of the Planet, Environmental Champions,
Let’s Perform a Miracle for the Air, and the Children’s Drawing Competition.
The Federal Secretary for the Environment pointed out that with this event, Mexico is reasserting its environmental leadership to the world and giving a clear sign that the nation is back on its feet after having overcome the health emergency.

May 24rd the beaches were full today, And the tourists are back again.
What a beautiful Sunday afternoon on the beach in Playa del Carmen, The occean was so refreshing, and a welcome relief from the hot sunny day. Im Happy, the tourists and locals converged to enjoy their picnics on the beach, the beach vendors were back selling Fresh fruit with chilli, (if you like that). Overall there was an optimistic outlook, and why not! lets face, we live in the most gorgeous part of Mexico, the Riviera Maya and Playa del Carmen was, today showing why they are in the top five places to vacation on the planet. Ah Paradise. For those of you who are not here right now, well i ask you, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR! they are virtually giving the vacation packages away. Come on, get on the internet, and start surfing for the ridiculously low deals right now. And if any of you like to take flight only and want help with where to stay just let me know, and i will put you intouch with some really good choices, or better yet i will give you some contacts, who work in the travel industry and they can do the whole thing for you, flight and accomodation.

Already more than 12 countries, have lifted their warning against travel to Mexico, which will facilitate the recovery of the international market, which represents to nearly 70% of the flow of visitors to the Riviera Maya and more than 80% of the tourist activities, and destinations in the country with the largest international activity.

The Spanish Embassy is recommending that if during your stay in Mexico, you have flu symptoms, to go to a hospital and to contact the embassy, but reiterated that the flights rescheduled back to Mexico
While continuing the process of revival, we know that the destination hotel, along with all the country's union asked the Congress to support the revival of the Tourist Industry in the shortest time possible.

$58million budget to Rebuild the confidence of Mexican Tourism.
Tour operators have resumed flights to Mexico and the hotels are more than ready to welcome tourists back. The Mexican Tourist Board and Treasury have set aside a budget of £58 million to rebuild the confidence in Mexican tourism. President Felipe Calderón said: "The recovery plan is the start of the campaign to encourage travellers to return to Mexico."
This has heralded a whole new and more agressive campaign for Mexico. In the light of the Swine flu scare, Mexico plans to, not only resume Tourism in Mexico, but to take it up a notch, with the intention that the Mexican Carribean will flood the domestic market. A 50 per cent reduction in cruise taxes is also being looked at, to relaunch Mexico as one of the top 5 destinations on the planet.
